Hi Gents,
Today I have finally fitted my luggage rails and rubber inserts. I bought an original set, bar one, at vast expense, about 5 years ago. I’ve had my hardura mat modified from one piece to the, correct for model, two piece type. I had bought bifurcated rivets to attach the rails (retainers) to the mat but as they were too long I used pop rivets instead. The two longest rails needed to be bent to follow the shape of the floor as the two boards, covering the spare wheel and petrol tank, slope up towards the rear of the car. Presumably this is how it should be? Looking at the photo in Dr Haddock’s originality bible it appears so:

I’ve also removed the folding extension board to remove the incorrect pop up luggage retainers, fill the holes and retrim before fitting the five shorts rails & rubbers.

885169 from Factory Fit has a two additional press studs on the L shaped part of the mat. One at the inside corner of the L and another adjacent on the left side edge of the mat. This one appears to be a little further towards the rear of the car unless it’s just the photo. As 885169 is unrestored I presume it’s correct. Incidentally it was built on the 7th November, the day before my car.
