Sugar scoop fit and finish.

How neat are the sugar scoops meant to fit under the headlamp glasses. Are they meant to hide the rear of the fixings for the chrome rim.

Those screws are not right and are too long. One is not supposed to see any bodywork once the light glass seal and ring are finally fitted.

The scoops should come up as close as possible to the chromes when viewed from above. There should be a protruding "flange" on the bodywork at the front of the scoops for them to rest on.

Those screws should be machine screws, not self tappers. They should be screwed into captive cage nuts in the flanges.

So the sugar scoop should be able to pass through the opening in the bonnet to meet the glass/chrome?

Mine looks significantly misaligned, is this a normal amount to shim to fit or could it be exacerbated by a badly assembled bonnet?

What does the protruding flange look like?

The left front edge of your scoop in the bottom picture is resting on the protruding flange, which needs to be bent up a bit to raise the front of the scoop. The rest of the left edge is as close as you're going to get it. The right side looks a bit low, I think maybe those scoops are a bit small. No the scoop cannot be lifted up to touch the glass or chrome. Try placing the glass with the seal & chrome over the opening, it'll look a look a lot less noticeable.

Randall that’s definitely not as good as it’ll get and putting it back together doesn’t hide anything hence I’ve got it in pieces.

That trim seems to be somewhat larger than it should be or too narrow, I wouldn't have expected to see so much bodywork visible.

If it helps...Maybe pull the scoops and adjust to get them as close as possible to the body as a 1st step.
When I converted my S1.25 to scoops I had to adjust from scratch and just used extended bolts for the scoops where they attach to the headlight panel.
Bottom one with a nut threaded on + washer to act as a spacer to push the scoop as far up as possible at the front.
Then adjust left and right using nuts on the left and right threads from the back of the headlight panel.
I had no lip at the front for them to rest on but still worked pretty well.

After a little fettling I’ve slightly improved the aesthetics of the front end.
