Subject says it. I used a complete rubber kit iirc from SNG or ebay, bought it maybe 8 years ago ? and the doors never shut properly. I heard there are thinner rubbers ? which may solve this issue ?

My doors have a „rail“ on top - what goes there, some kind of rubber lip strip ? I could not fit anything from the kit there.

I’ve been adjusting my drivers door for past 2 years and finally got a good fit after fitting seals from COH Baines:

They are softer but I find sanding the rear of them to get a better fit helped in my case. Great service from them too. The B post seals did need trimming as the gaps are tight in places and no two cars are the same. As these seals need to be durable I got a few from Martin Robey as these were cheapest.

You have to sand the door seals for as good fit. Especially the B pillar ones.

Re the B post seals- do they fit go on with the 'C' opening to the rear of the car??

Okay, looking at COH Baines website they show the B post seals but don't show the profile (got a feeling that mine are totally wrong , being an open 'C' cross-section like the rear hatch). Anyone got a clear photo?

David, the B post seals for my S2 FHC came from Baines and very pleased with a complete set for the car bonnet, doors, rear hatch. Yes, C or U shaped, fit the correct one for the side L or R and should work nicely if your doors fitted nicely beforehand. Maybe a bit of trimming of length or depth depending on the individual car. Mine needed no depth trimming only cutting to length. Sorry no photos to hand but if you download their catalogue that will help you see the profile. Also check the SNGB website as you can often the the profile on there.

Here you go David. This is a piece of the excess I cut from my drivers door B post seal.

Carsten's car is listed as a 66 S1 2+2, with most of the replies relating to FHCs; the seals for these two models are totally different.

The following picture show the sections of seals used with 2+2 cars



The correct seal for the "B" pillar is BD28434 shown top right in the above picture, but is not available from anyone. The seal that's supplied by all is the seal indicated in the left column, BD20500.

The following picture shows the cross section and construction of the BD20500 seal that's supplied by many of the After Market supplies. You will note from the following picture that the seal is made from two densities of rubber, a quite hard rubber where the seal attaches to the car and a rather soft, quite porous for the remainder. The use of this seal in the as supplied condition will guarantee a door slammer and a poor fitting door.



What many do, when using this particular seal, is to remove by cutting, the smaller section between the two Red lines in the following picture.



To have to do this to a new seal that's supposed to be fit for purpose, is tantamount to buying a dog and then having to bark for it. To me its gobsmaking, that parts that have worked quite successfully in their original form, aren't simply copied; I think its a case of the manufacturers punching above their designer capabilities.

The following two pictures are of a seal that was available from XK Unlimited (not sure what they supply now). As can be seen, the whole of the seal is made from very soft and porous material; this seal construction works as supplied, if the interface between the door and "B" is correct.

Whow, the last post I think describes exactly my problem.

I will try to find the time to check all the rubber I fitted and get cross- section pictures.

At the moment, I have to re- assemble my 11.8 ton Unimog beast so that I can drive it out of the main shed. Then I‘ll have to clean it up after one year of Mog work, and drive the E- type in, and start putting it together. Goal is to have them both finished by X- Mas, the Mog needing an MOT for about a year then.

Caution, Steve's picture is correct for a fhc & the opening should face the rear. It seems the 2+2 is different.

David, they face to the rear. I tucked the edge in here but I can run my finger down the opening to pull out as seen in second photo. If you were 1.5hrs north you could pop bye and see mine finally managed to get doors shutting nice now.

Yes, a totally different section of seal that also attaches to a different section of the "B" pillar.
