#1 Series 1 fhc rear door release

Post by Meg » Tue Sep 13, 2022 8:48 pm

I have a 1962 fhc and wondered about the rear door release. When I pull the lever behind the drivers seat, is the rear door supposed to jump up slightly for you to get your fingers under to release the catch? Mine does not do this. I have to put my fingers on the edge of the door and pull it up slightly before I can get my fingers in to release the catch. What would be wrong if it is supposed to lift up slightly? Thank you in advance.

It’s just an alignment issue. It’s easier to adjust everything whilst laying inside the boot, with an assistant outside

There is a strong spring on the lock mechanism that, when the hatch is closed, rests on the striker plate.

With the door is pushed down and the latch mechanism engaged this spring is compressed.

When the latch is released this spring should lift the door enough for you to get your fingers under it.

The striker deeds to be aligned centrally to slide smoothly beteeen those to curled over tabs on the sides of the lock body.

Mine pops up nicely and with enough room to get fingers into latch.
