Sikapower 4720 is recommended not 221 if you read Sika's website. And search "4720" on here for comments from experienced restorers.

Searched 4720 and found it.

I like your idea of installing the engine with the picture frame off. Did you set the engine on its mounts before or after fitting the picture frame?

I think it's really difficult to fit the frame with the engine, to fasten the bolts with the proper torque.

So, I have fit the frame side members, and then moved the engine in. The engine was suspended all the time until I have fitted the rest of the frame, suspension, wheels, etc, so that no weight would be present on the frame until it was all tightened together.

Quite frankly, I think it's the easiest way to go about it, however others may differ..

Ammeded:

-1. get the car out of the paintshop with he body assembled, so that you see no surprises afterwords...
0. Rustproof the car (sills inner structures, ets.) mount the floor plugs and the harness tab plastic protectors.
1. Assemble all the subassemblies 1st (rear suspension, engine+gearbox and the small bits like heaters or steering, so that you have all ready.
2. Start with the bulkhead, inner and outer, in general the heater pipes go 1st. Assemble everything you can mount on the bulkhead.
3. Get the harness in alongwith the electrical stuff, like headlamps
4. Assemble the dashboard.
5. Rear bumpers
6. Fuel pipes & tank
7. Rear suspension & driveshaft & handbrake.
8. Brake lines from the rear to the front, clutch pipes.
9. Once there is really nothing else that you can mount in the engine bay, fit the engine. I did if with the picture frame off, see photo below.
10. Picture frame, Front suspension, front break pipes, front harness, battery cable, steering rack
11. Radiator and everything front of the engine.
12. At this point I released the engine from the hoist.
13. floor Heat shields, Exhaust.
14. Brake & clutch reservoirs, with the heat shield, bleed the breaks.
15. Somewhere along the way assemble entire bonnet.
16. Upholstery
17. Fit the windows incl windshield.
18. mud guards and engine shields, unless you can mount them after front suspension setup.
19. Air filter can
20. Mount the bonnet
21. Start driving.
22. Setup the suspension.

I am at step 17, however my quarter light windows need adjustments...

A good book is by Classic Motor Cars https://www.classic-motor-cars.co.uk/
“E Type Jaguar Restoration Manual” author David Barzilay

Geoff
Excellent book. The sequence is now clear to me. Ok OTS vs my FHC, RHD vs my LHD, early early vs my not so early, so still a bit of guesswork. But it helped a lot.
