Exhaust Manifold Coatings

I have a 1966 S1 4.2 FHC and have been trying to find out if the exhaust manifold is supposed to be coated with anything. I suspect not, but am having a tough time finding out. I have studied Thomas Haddock's restoration and originality guide and nothing is directly stated. Dave Pollard's book says it's a shame the paint rusts off rust, which suggests they start life coated?

This seems to be one area in particular where owners seem to do all kinds of things; ceramic, nickel, replace with stainless, paint, etc.

Mine are raw and uncoated.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Dad!
I had mine coated with high temperature rated ceramic. Done by a company in Chilliwack at a very reasonable price. I can post a picture if you like.
