#1 Kelsey Hayes Front Cover

Post by Gadget » Mon Nov 28, 2022 9:28 am

i am in the process of refurbishing my Kelsey-Hayes brake servo unit. The front die cast aluminium cover plate (part 8723-Valve Housing) is a little bit scuffed up. I took it to an aluminium anodiser who though it was hard anodised but the anodising was unusually thin. He was happy to remove the old anodising but was reluctant to re-anodise it as the material composition was unknown and this could result in total loss of the part.
Has anybody re-coated this part, what was used and did it come out ok? I have looked at service exchange units that appear to be painted black or vapour blasted and they look totally different to the original.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try Vapor Blasting, just protect the valve.

It would look like this afterwards:

All the ones I've seen have been painted.
