#1 Otter switch repair.

Post by Allrand » Fri Dec 02, 2022 3:16 pm

Has anyone opened an otter switch to repair or adjust it. I'd appreciate a picture of a dismantled one. A new one from SNG (was on the shelf for about 5 years) worked initially but stoped after a few times, nothing wrong with the fan or relay. The original from my car has been tampered with, there's no evidence of a bimetallic strip.
I'm reluctant to open the new one unless I know what I'm looking for.

Coolcat has a modern sensor switch that is more dependable and works quite well.
A mall adapter bolts on and the sensor threads in.

Thanks Lane, that could be problematic getting one here, and I'd also want to keep an authentic look.

Randall, look at coolcat, you might be able to hide the unit under the original Otter switch casing. It wouldn’t be difficult to have a base plate machined then buy the switch (Mitsubishi ircc) to fit.

Don't bother trying to repair the Otter switch because you will never get a reliable repair. No matter what anybody else might say.

The Coolcat option is probably the best and has the added advantage of using a proprietary sensor which is robust, reliable and easily available anywhere in the world.

Don't know if Coolcat only comes out of th US or he stocks in the UK but members in the UK seem to get them easily.
Also Fosseway in the UK has a very similar or maybe it's the same switch arrangement.
Perhaps UK supplier is easier?
