#1 Series 1 transition to Series 1.25 when?

Post by pafagt » Wed Jan 18, 2023 7:36 pm

Hi Forum, does anybody know or have information about when or around when (in chassis number) the cars began coming out with open headlights?
Thanks for your help,

Pablo

Pablo, an excellent book is the E Type Originality Guide by Clausager, also the books by Haddock. These are listed in the knowledge section with many details of how the car changed during its production. And they and others are very good reference books to understand all about the E Type.
I can’t answer your question straight away but will look in my copies if no one more knowledgeable answers before me.
Lots of good info in the knowledge section.

This may help:
S1.5 Originality Guide: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m8imtk76xyuu4 ... 5.pdf?dl=1

There is a S1.25 originality guide somewhere if I can find it.

Steve at Post #3 is correct about xkedata having information.
I’m not sure on the subtlety of differentiating between Series 1.25 or Series 1.5, but I printed this out previously to find how far my car was from being one of the last Series 1, hence the underlining in that area. I note the comment on the Series 1.5, that “the exact number where they start is a hot subject !”
It is from xkedata, “XKE Car Numbers : A Guide”.

How strange and explains the comment about “the exact number where they start is a hot subject !”
My 1967 Fixed Head Coupe is 1E21525, which according to the Jaguar Heritage Certificate was manufactured on 3rd May 1967 and dispatched on the 10th May 1967 and is 100% a full Series 1 closed headlight car with full history documented all the way from the first owner.

Thank you all, great conversation..! I don’t have a certificate yet, how do I get one..? I do have the original purchase order dated May 1st 1967 and a letter signed by M.B. Young from Jaguar cars confirming serial numbers and specifications of the car dated May 17th 1967. The car has open headlights but everything else is just as a series 1 car. Apparently Jaguar did release some close headlights cars in between. There was definitely a transition period.

Thanks again..!

The whole S1.25 to S1.5 transition has been studied in detail by Steve Clew and fully documented in the JCNA Judges Guide I linked to earlier.

Pablo, Heritage Certificates can be obtained here (though due to computer hacking at international sorting offices none are being sent overseas at present)
