#1 air horns where they factory accessories ?

Post by pafagt » Wed Jun 14, 2023 8:44 pm

Hello, I just found a set of air horns in my car. they are located in a ver complicated area and I'm wondering if they could be factory original? or if they are more likely dealer installed ?
Here are a few pictures.

Nice to have though! They were banned on all new cars in 1996 thanks to EU noise restriction rules. If you have them use them. Porsche 911's had them as standard until '96, thinking of putting them on my 1997 993 though.

Our local lunchtime sandwich delivery van to the trading estate has them - to let people know he has arrived!!

I had them on my MGB (which played La Curiacia, or however you spell it! or one single blast) and they were great.
Yes, my 911 3.2 Carrera has them as well.

Look after them

La Cucaracha..?? jajajaja that is an interesting thought...

Well thanks, I will definitely try to make them work again... Last owner was Mexican / Belgian so it will be interesting to see how they sound.

Just one thing you should know is that horns which played other than a single note or chord ( i.e. twin tones sounded simiultaneously were OK ) became illegal in the UK ( and in all probablility in all EU countries )from about the mid 1990s onwards

The Denali Soundbomb air horn is what you want. Compact and extremely effective.

My understanding is that musical horns (colonel Bogey, La Cucaracha, Never on a Sunday, etc) were banned in 1973 in the UK but vehicles built before then could/can use them. My mate had some on his 1968 Cortina back in the cruising days. He also had a 'proper' horn though.

Stuart

As there only seem to be two horns, they probably work together as a cord.

We are seeing 2 pairs of horns and the compressor has at least 5 pipes connected to it so it probably plays or played a tune.
