#1 Remove rear shock absorbers without removing the axle unit?

Post by Bertson » Fri Jul 07, 2023 5:47 pm

Maybe a stupid question,

but is it possible to remove the rear shocks without removing the complete axle assembly?

Do I need a spring compressor to remove the old springs?

Etype S1, 1966, 2+2

:helpsos:

Thanks in advance...

Robert

Yes...so long as the last person that fitted the shocks fitted the top fixing bolts from the inside if the irs cage and the nut on the outside....Steve.. ps you have a 2+2 so very tight to access the nut at the top....a long spanner helps or a spanner cable tied to a length of bar....removeing springs..depends how competant you are....as you needed to ask then best take them to a shop....

O.K. thanks, that's a very good tip I hadn't thought about that..
For the springs I will go to a shop nearby....

I want to change from my Koni shocks to GAZ shocks that are adjustable in height and hardness. (SNG)

I would like to use the current Eibach ERS springs for this, since my e is a bit lower than normal....
So the adjustable gas shocks seem perfect to me.

I do not know the quality of GAZ shock absorbers?

Regards...

Robert

The height adjustable Gaz shocks need specific shorter springs to fit in the platforms. ...standard springs wont fit....best check with the supplier befor purchase....Steve

Yes you do. It is one of the most dangerous jobs you can do on the car. Make sure you read up about it extensively before contemplating doing it yourself.

kind regards
Marek

Thank you Steve, for your tip, I will use the Eibach ERS springs which are very short...

The wheel arches are widened because in the rear I drive 8,5Jx15 mounted on Borrani Record.

My e is a little bit modified...

Best Regards...

Robert
