Hello,

I just want to change my oil filter because the filter canister is leaking. Currently I use an old sock around the canister to catch the oil...looks nice...

Now I have all the parts proposed by SNG for S1, 2+2, 1966 with original oil filter canister.

The big question is : Where must I put the sealing ring and which one of the two which are delivered by SNG ?

At the bottom of the housing, but then the canister edge will cut the sealing ring?

Or inside the canister to the inner side of the housing (which will be not a good sealing) ?

I don't understand how this sealing will by fitting without leaking. ?

Some tipps or tricks ????

There's a groove on the face of the housing for the seal. Make sure the old seal is completely removed and the groove is clean.

Use the narrower one; the large one won't fit.

There's currently a thread about these seals going on the US forum (I think; can't currently find it). Personally I haven't ever had trouble with them leaking although others do.

At the bolt end of the filter cover there's a rubber seal. Renew this as well.

I agree that the thinner seal is the one that I use on my Series 1 4.2 engine. In order to seal correctly - as with all oil filters - I put a thin smear of new oil on the new dry rubber seal and ensure the circular base of the filter housing is completely aligned in the groove before only tightening hand tight.
There is a danger if you crank the central mounting bolt too tight it will crush the seal with a potential to cause a leak. Always best to hand tighten any oil filter and if there is a minor drip to then nip up a bit further to complete the seal.

The edge of my oil filter tank is straight but the end edge of the tank is just very thin.

Somehow I feel there is a sealing surface missing there on the reservoir side.

Is this thin edge original or does the reservoir have a thicker or rounded edge to seal to the rubber ring which may be missing on my canister?

Does anyone perhaps have a photo of the edge of the original oil filter container?
