#1 cross over duct deletion on series 1.5

Post by michel geny » Thu Nov 16, 2023 8:58 am

I will have to change exhaust manifolds on my serie1.5 : broken link with exhaust pipe

doing that I would like to delete the cross over duct

reasons : aesthetics and more simplicity of engine compartment

is there any inconvenient to do that ?

my understanding is that if air is not pre heated in carburators I should have better enrichment and more engine power

Michel, can you confirm which carburettors you have, please? I’m guessing two Stromberg?
You may find good comments on jaglovers which is an American website and they will have more experience of doing something like this. Also they have comments about how to adjust Strombergs to give better performance as their cars had those carbs fitted unlike the UK or European cars.

I’m certain that on some stromberg equipped cars (later ones) the crossover was indeed deleted and an aluminium cap fitted on the inlet manifold. The exhaust manifold could have the crossover unbolted although it doesn’t look great.

hello Tim

I know that later cars (series 2) did not keep crossover duct
in that case I would change also rear exhaust manifold not keeping current one who presents bolts to fit crossover duct
