Does anyone have photos of an early Series 1 horn?

I believe they are Lucas 7H, can anyone confirm? Think later Series 1 were Lucas 9H.

Ian.

How early a series 1? i.e. are yours mounted inside the front of the bonnet? If the answer is yes - then I can take a photo for you...

This is from my May '63 OTS. Couldn't find any numbers on them.

Dave,

They look exactly like my '61.

Many thanks for the photo - I have similar mounts just need to find the correct horns.

I have a 61 but just one modern horn fitted in an incorrect convenient place.

Does anyone know the difference between horns C17192/C17193 (Early chassis) and C19080/C19081 (Late chassis).

Don't know the difference Ian, mounting perhaps. Enter Lucas Horn into ebay, there are always plenty listed. You need one low note and one high note - usually they are stamped L or H at the end of the trumpet. The low one can be identified easily as it has a much longer cochlear.

With the headlamp glass, scoop and headlamp removed, this is the same area from a different angle (looking through the right hand headlamp apperture):

I was disappointed to realise that my 'new' series 1 bonnet did not have the brackets for the horns (although this is where my car is supposed to have them). So many thanks for these photos - at least I now have a fighting chance of manufacturing something similar.

Cheers

Chris,

Talk to Martin Robey, I believe they supply the brackets.

Or indeed Hutson's. Are you sure your car should be fitted with the internal horns? They were moved to under the picture frame after complaints they were not loud enough recessed in the bonnet. Unless you are determined to get the car correct the relocated horns are a more sensible proposition if you are going to use the car.

Can't remember when the horns were changed; I will look it up when I have time.
