A 2+2, whilst a nice car, is not considered a good investment. Cost of restoration and maintenance is the same as for all E-Types but whilst you may see no loss in investing in a S1 OTS the 2+2 will hit your hard. Depending on where the car is I suggest you contact Angus Moss at Moss Jaguar in Letchworth and get his advice and an inspection.
Bear in mind a full restoration on any E-Type will cost in the region of £150K unless you do most of the work yourself. A good S1 or S2 2+2 will probably run to £45k but a bad one will cost you £190K!

To value a purchase price of the car use Hagerty valuation tool, and haggle.
As for investment, nah! (1) The 2+2 is great as a drivers car. All the sound and feel of an E-Type for a fraction of the cost of the far more cramped coupe. And only a few people know it's the ugly sister version. But investment? It may retain its value, and it might turn out to be a trouble free car to run. But ......
(1). Mine hasn't faired too badly. Bought for £20k in 2003, now worth between £40k and £50k, depending on the rose tint in a prospective purchasers eyes. I won't sell for that. More importantly, I have spent just under £20k on repairs and maintenance in the last 21 years, that's everything oil tyres replacement parts, including a £1500 clutch bill. And I've driven it over 83,000 miles. (The car has done 220,000 miles.) That is the cheapest 83,000 miles I've ever driven. And driving and E-Type looks good and makes me feel good.

That's the best attitude to adopt.
E Types, in all forms, are just one of the finest motor cars ever produced. Even people who don't particularly like them have a grudging respect for them.
You have to really want one if you're going to buy one. Yes, some people buy them with an eye on investment but, more so than a contemporary Ferrari, you can easily catch a cold as values vary with the economy.
Buy one if you really want one. Don't if you don't.
I think that everybody on this forum have their cars because they love them and this comes across in the friendly tone and comradeship to be found here.
Regards
Stuart

Hi,
I think different.
A 2+2 is great value for money. You pay say 60.000 for a good one, and get the like back in say 10 yrs. Job done. Same may apply with an OTS or Coupe.
I agree with others that it will mostly not pay back when you do a full resto on them. I did, took 15+ yrs, and I did it all by myself, year by year. This way you won‘t get over market-value somehow or close, but it takes a very long road to get there, don‘t ask.

Hi,
Yes but its a huge difference to not get 50thsd back instead of 200 thsd….
So, if you want a „cheap“ E Type Experience, get a proper 2+2 :-). But make sure it is a real good car, not a US Spec automatic twin carb..
