It has been suggested to me that the adjustable upper fulcrum shaft is a worthwhile option when considering the fashion for larger front tyres ( 205) and the desire to adjust the Camber to a small negative rather than positive. I would be interested if many of you have used these and whether you feel it was worth the effort and expense?

Adjustable Upper fulcrum Shaft
#2 Re: Adjustable Upper fulcrum Shaft
It might be interesting to try.
Personally I've always been able to achieve the negative camber I require with shims.
The ability to quickly vary camber without having to change shims might be nice for fine tuning driveability.

I fitted the adjustable shafts as I was unable to get to my target -1.0 negative camber even with all shims removed. You can also machine the mounting face of the upper pivot mounting blocks to facilitate negative camber (I did this on a previous E) but the adjustable shaft is a more elegant solution that doesn't risk compromising the mounting in any way. And it's "bolt on" as they say.

Thank you. Thats sort of what I had heard. Do you have any methodology for the -1.0 degree ?

No empirical methodology. With 3 Etypes over 40 years, I kept incrementally tweaking (spring rates, ride height, and increasing negative camber and positive caster) until I could find no improvement in feel and cornering confidence while maintaining a civilized street car on near standard tires (205/70 on 6.5" rims in this case). My current setup is a somewhat relaxed spec from the full 'track attack' setup of my youth :)
With no disrespect to Norman Dewis or the Jaguar engineers, I find S1 Etypes wearing radials to be happier in cornering with more negative camber than the factory specified 60+ years ago.

I am sure that you are right. When you consider the tyre design and profile of X ply versus Radial its of no great surprise that they geometry would be quite different. When the radial came into Jaguar ( 1968? ) Jaguar changed the settings I think to account for the change in tyre design but I guess the set up would not allow negative camber without skimming the bush brackets which I would certainly not wish to do. I wonder, as a matter of interest what the camber setting are for a V12 series 3? Anyone know?

thanks Steve, So pretty much confirms where these need to be with 205 tyres, I know series 1 different but same idea
