#1 Mystery screw on wiper motor mechanism

Post by Philippe-J. » Mon Nov 04, 2024 8:17 am

Gentlemen,

can any of you explain what is the screw (with its blocking nut) at the top of the wiper mechanism?

Image

This is aligned with the worm gear of the motor, and has a nylon end. When fully tighten it can touch the gear end and maybe block it. I can not figure out what is this screw for, neither how to set it, so thank you for your explanations.

Hey,

Iirc you can set the float / end-play of the motor shaft there. Same arrangement on my Hillman Imp wiper motor…

Thank you Carsten.
Next question is: how do you set it? A visto de naz :geek: ? Or with a thickness gauge? Is this setting described somewhere?

Thank you Steve, as I eventually found the info I needed. It was in the "Windscreen Washer and Wiper" section of Series 3, so not the same equipment as my S1, but I guess that the " gap between end of armature shaft and adjustment screw" has the same specification of 0.05 to 0.2 mm.
I'll use my feeler gauge and the problem will be solved. :thankyouyellow:
