Posting as a bit of a wild card.

I’m in the market for my first E Type, why have I waited so long?

Looking at:- 1E21430 (series 1, right-hand drive, fixed-head coupe)
UK delivered car, red/black late 1966. Matching numbers according to JHT.
Original registration - JVA 414D I’m told.

Currently Residing in Australia now silver/red recently restored.
Looking for any history in UK or when shipped to Australia, > 15 years ago

Similarly struggling with AU history as car currently belongs to “collector” who has zero information.

It’s not on xke data, anyone know of it?

Cheers

AFD

Here’s what it looks like today.

Update from the other source.

The car was built on 14th September 1966, despatched to Ritchies dealership on
11th November 1966, Carmen Red, Black trim. Original owners, Ireland Alloys
Ltd, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Original registration, JV A 414D.

Still no subsequent history, the unique sticker on the back screen appears to have been with the car for some time, possibly owned by a military veteran? :salute:

I can't help, but as a general principle I would be very cautious buying a car imported from Britain.

Rust can be a big problem with these cars.

Andrew is correct about fears of rust, however there are a few people like him and Bill Angel in Australia who could assess the car to see if the rust is properly dealt with.

The UK never flew the A4 Skyhawk but didn’t the RAAF or RNZAF? That could be most likely reason behind the sticker.

Seems to have incorrect aluminium centre dash/radio surround panels & maybe earlier 3.8 ashtray.

The car I’m looking at has been extensively restored and presents very well, my worry is without documentation it’s just as is, whereas the Documentation or photographs presumably substantiate the works done. But does this add value or just piece of mind, it’s no guarantee that if the engine were rebuilt say 25 years ago it’s any good today, a very recent receipted rebuilt is vastly different I feel.

What I’m noticing is many cars are turning up at dealers with little or no documentation another one I looked at was restored in the early 90’s so 30 years ago It had receipts.

So what value are old receipts, if the car presents and tests well does it make any difference to the value?

Thoughts?

That's really good information you received from 'the other source.'

I'm not sure what you are trying to get to here.

Receipts are an indication of the care and attention a car has received over time. An engine rebuild is always going to be a good sign but guarantees absolutely nothing. Likewise everything else.

The car you are considering has been modified away from how it left the factory and some people might dismiss it out of hand because of that. However, that isn't the case for most people and, whatever anybody says, it's still an E Type.

I would suggest that you get the car examined by an expert, particularly regarding the quality of the body restoration which is the most critical aspect where E Types are concerned. Once you're convinced the car is as good as you can reasonably expect it to be then decide whether you want to buy it or not.

If you're concerned about the value of the car then maybe an E Type isn't for you. They have always been barometers for the economic climate. Buy one because you really want one and enjoy it as much as you can. If you worry about the value then you will never drive it.
