#1 Locating the VIN/Chassis Number

I have a 1968 EType Series 1.5 Roadster and I am trying to obtain a Heritage Certificate for the Vehicle from Jaguar. I have submitted all the numbers - VIN, Body & Engine, though they have come back and said the VIN number is not the number from the manufacturers according to the build ledger records. I followed their guide on where to locate and the number in that location is N771812P. Can anyone shed some light as to if I could find the correct VIN/Chassis number in another spot?

Hi Johnathan,
Whereabouts are you looking? The VIN, or Car Number is only stamped in one location and that is on the top RHS of the Picture Frame. I’ve circled the area in red, below:
The number should read something like 1E18XXX, where the XXX are unique numbers to your car.

Of course it is stamped in another place and that’s the ID Plate along with all the other numbers for your car, but I presume your plate is missing?

The N number we have is in the spot you mentioned. We have the body, engine and gearbox number which Jaguar have confirmed are correct, but we are just missing the VIN number. We do not have the ID Plate. Is there anywhere we can look with a listing of these numbers to find out what it should be?

This is interesting. When I was sorting my car the chassis number(VIN) was not present (replaced by a Dutch customs number stamped over it!
I had the engine, gearbox and body number (written on the back of dash)
Mary at Jag heritage specifically asked me where I’d found the body number and then said..”oh that’s way more useful than the chassis number!) and promptly issued a certificate with the correct chassis number!
Maybe I just alight her in a positive state of mind!

Is there a possibility that the Engine number is "related" to the Chassis number? I have the Engine number 7E15097-9 and have read that the engine numbers and chassis numbers could be closely related, therefore wondering if my Chassis number could be 1E15097? Has anyone found this close relation in their numbers?

No, the engine number and chassis number have no real relation and certainly not the same number, except by coincidence, if ever.

Your suggested chassis number is for a series 1 not a 1.5
