Fuel filler box

Could someone please provide me with the dimensions of the opening around the fuel filler box. Specifically the open length front to back. I've had a new one delivered and it overhangs the existing opening by 1/2". The width is fine.

I would think that you have got the wrong part, the filler boxes and lids come in different sizes according to what version of the car you have. I have a FHC and a roadster, both Series 2, 1970 that I can measure if it would help you out, best regards John.

I think you've probably answered my question with regards to the varying sizes depending on the model. It would appear the usual suppliers use the same part numbers for all models.

I do have a spare second-hand filler lid that does not fit my cars, could it be one for a 2 plus 2? Is it possible that you could let me know the size of your required lid. cheers John.

Hi John,

Thanks for the offer on the lid but my lids OK, it's the filler box is the issue, rusted through in a few awkward areas.

It looks as though the filler boxes currently sold by all the usuals has a standard size opening which is 5" in width when looking at the box from the front.

Unfortunately, mine is 5 1/2" with a tapered profile. I assume this is due to it being a S1 2+2.

Has anyone fitted a new filler box recently and fettled the box opening to fit the existing wing.

Hi Alun, I have two of my car's boxes out at the moment, not sure if they are the same as whilst both cars are 1970 Series 2 models, one is a FHC and the other is a Roadster. I see your car is a 2 plus 2 so perhaps I am unable to assist you at this time, good luck with it. cheers John.

Update on this one.

It looks like one size fits all. Basically you trim to fit once you've got the alignment.
