When I got my e-type the wiper rack was fitted but the arms and escutcheons had been removed. The car came with the original escutcheons and nuts, but no rubber seals. As they were slightly pitted, I ordered 3 new complete kits from Martin Robey.

I went to fit them today and cannot get them on. with the wiper mechanism pushed flush up to the bulkhead from inside the car (I have the dash top off at the moment) and the escutcheon fitted, I cannot see enough thread to get the nut to bite and hold the mechanism in place. This is with or without the rubber seal fitted under the escutcheon, and with both the original and new escutcheons.

What am I missing here?!

Dismantled the wiper rack and found the problem.... The outer angled sleeves had corroded on to the spindles, but were not fully seated. I had the tap them out with a hammer and clean them up, now can refit hopefully!

Mine is Series 1 - maybe different ?

I remember thinking I had this problem, upon assembly, only to discover that the inclination of the wiper boxes, within the scuttle, wasn't optimally oriented - and all of a sudden I found the missing 5mm.

I'm guessing you have tried that fifty times already.

However, I remember from my pictures that there is - on the S1 at least - the angled spacer on the scuttle side that has a cut-out ; these couldn't be incorrectly aligned, could they ?

This is what I ended up with once tightened.

I think that was the exact problem - the tab was not located in the notch, and the angled sleeve had corroded onto the spindle and stuck solid where it had been out so long.
