I have a perhaps small problem with potentially pretty serious consequences. The oil hose from the filter unit down to the oil pan, which is supposed to contain hot oil. My problem is that the two studs are not the same OD. The top one is OD 15.8mm, the lower is OD 14.3mm. My local parts guy sold me a hose that's very soft and flexible, and that can fit both ends. But it being so soft, do I trust it with hot oil? Limora sold me a thick stiff hose that fit on top, but is too big for the lower stud. And a third hose I got fits below, and can with great force be slided onto the top stud, but the hose then looks like a problem waiting to happen.

Am I too cautious? Is it correct to have different size studs? Or?

Not 100% sure but from what I can see the hose is of uniform diameter of the larger and the smaller ID gets a jubilee clamp.

The correct hose is tapered...different internal diameter at each ends.....they are available....but most of the usuals supply a straight hose.....if you use straight then at least make sure its suitable for oil and not a coolant hose......Steve

Yep, one of those Jaguar mysteries that we will never solve! The original hose was indeed tapered so unless you can find a supplier (I only know of one and they do not sell direct) it is a matter of tightening the lower clamp until there are no leaks.

Just use two Jubilee Clips on the curved sump pipe.
One to seal around just under the top flared pipe diameter and another below to tighten on the lower smaller pipe diameter. The other smaller pipe attached is the Header Tank overflow pipe.
This the heavy pretty inflexible oil pipe from SNG Barrett with the white printed oil specification on the pipe hidden around the back.
No leaks from the sump or this sump return pipe !

What I do is cut a short length of narrower ID hose (I use clear PVC) and slide this over the smaller spigot on the sump.

Then you can use the straight hose and it doesn't leak.

As to whether the hose supplied to you is safe I can't comment. Ask the seller if it is oil compatible.

A good auto parts store will have hose for carrying hot oil. There is no pressure there.
If you can't find one go to a shop that does hydraulic hose and fittings. They make up hydraulic pressure lines and will surely have what you need.

An elegant and long term solution, due to the hose construction. A bit pricey at $30 before shipping, though.

Plenty of hose manufacturers that can make you one..or check out ebay..silicone hose reducers...iv just got 2 larger diameter coolant hose reducers for a project...Steve... like this

Check a racing supply shop. Over here Pegasus Racing stocks silicon hose with differentially sized ends.

I ended up using the Limora hose. It says oil on it, it's stiff, thick and confidence inspiring, it fits perfectly on top, and with a gap at the bottom of course. But with two clamps tightened at the bottom, I was not able to turn the hose by hand, so pretty tight.
I'll keep an eye on it...

With a wipe of sealant just under the flare, and just one hose-clip, mine has been drip free.
