Clock upgrade
#2 Re: Clock upgrade
A number of peiple I know have had it done (including me). Don't think you can get the work done in the UK. Mine runs really slow and Mike thinks it could be a bad earth (haven't checked it yet). If there is a problem, Mike will put it right if I ship the clock back to him (after 2 years).

+1 Mike Ecke - clock works superbly and is very accurate.

Mine isn't good, stops randomly after 1 year but I haven't talked to Mike about it yet. I just suspect it's a typical electro-mechanical issue so will look for a modern (quartz) solution.

I had my clock "upgraded" by a UK supplier but it was not a success. I sent two clocks (I had a non-working one which came with a rev counter I picked up to experiment with) to Mike Eck and got back one converted clock which so far (18 months) is keeping excellent time. Mike was a pleasure to deal with into the bargain so +1 for his service.

I think Dave Rawle's might have been one of a batch I took over to the USA one time for Angus, Dave, John et al and they were all OK except mine, I thought. It was some years before I tried mine in a car but it has never worked.
Mike is nice and will check/fix it for free but I've just never got round to removing it to send back when I'm over there. He'll also do polarity coversions I believe, if you need a positive earth clock but only have a negative earth core or vice versa. I think Dave Kerr's was a changeover - not sure.
I tend to use a battery isolator for anything longer than about a week, which is admittedly fairly rare even in winter, and also for security when parking somewhere public. It messes up radio station storage and the clock, although I could run a separate feed for those I suppose, or use one of those in-line fuse bridges at the negative terminal (though that partly defeats the storage objective of avoiding battery depletion.

I had mine done by Mike Eck in fact I sent a batch of about 12 over which Pete Crespin brought back. Mine works but runs slow. I did ask Mike about this and he said it is within spec.
I believe John McLaughlin did and upgrade that works OK. I'll ask him.
