#1 Bonnet centering

Doesn't life get in the way!

Having spent a few weeks from the car, I'm now back thinking I need to centre the bonnet. It aligns with the original markings, before I stripped the bonnet but it's slightly out down the side edge against the scuttle. Having checked true centre alignment I could do with moving the bonnet about 1/16" left to right.

Is there an easy way of doing this without taking the bonnet off. I'm a one man band most of the week and trying to shove this thing to one side is proving a little challenging.

I originally told myself the body shop would lose this when they come to dress the new quater panels.

Alun, has the body shop worked on panels and then painted the bonnet as a whole? If so you may find loosening the bolts and nuts holding all the sections together will give you lots to play with. I’ve done just this on my own so know it is achievable if not a bit fiddly. Loosen the springs then lower and raise the bonnet with a pulley so you can gently position it just above the scuttle before pulling down with the catches.

Hi Geoff,

I never actually got to the paint shop, life got in the way and I'm just getting back to normal.

So I'm assembled, ready to go to the body shop with a few niggles to sort.

Your latest message appears to have switched my brain back into gear. Too much time spent in hospital on my back!

As you suggest, I'll take the weight of the bonnet from the ceiling and adjust as required.

Hi Al, glad to hear you’re out of hospital and hope you are fully recovered or certainly on your way there.

The latest video by Mr monocoque provides comprehensive info on bonnet assembly and lining up.

A link will be provided later if there is interest.
