#1 Wiring Loom Routing

Post by Series1 Stu » Fri Oct 09, 2026 2:12 pm

My main wiring loom, running from behind the dash and through the bulkhead/LH footwell and then on forward isn't currently tucked up out of the way in the footwell where it should be. I am about to glue it in place but am in doubt about whether or not there should be a P clip holding it in place. I can find pictures of some cars with one and others without. Then some have a P clip fixing it to the outside of the bulkhead near the voltage regulator.

Typically, this aspect of restoration is not given many words and pictures in the restoration guides and blogs.

Is there a definitive answer to whether there should be a P clip holding the loom in the footwell or not? Chris Vine's blog doesn't seem to show a clip but that may not be correct.

What is the experience of the collective?

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Stuart

Stuart and Steve, were P clips used much back in the day? Weren’t the wire looms held in place by welded on metal tabs at various locations where they were needed? (Bits of metal a fraction cheaper than a P clip so that would have been the preference by certain people!!)
Also the plastic strips with holes and a stud to hold to such parts as the engine frames.
