#1 Brake master cyclinder

Post by roy1944 » Sat Apr 23, 2011 9:16 pm

I am looking for a brake master cyclinder for my S1 after discovering a leak and some ruined paint work. I was told after purchasing the car early last year that new seals were fitted so it looks like the bore may be scored or is it worth replacing the seals in case the previous owner may have been mistaken.
Any info, ie, where to buy one would be a great help

All the major suppliers e.g. SNG Barratt , David Manners , will be able to produce one of these at a price! . If it's a 3.8 the Part number is C19968 and SNGB do them for ?102 incl VAT. If it's a 4.2 it is C 26767 and the price is ? 174 . Before you order, I should strip it down and look at ( and feel) the bore . It should be shiny and smooth. If there is very light rusting which will clear with a bit of 1000 or 1200 grade wet and dry you might find that it is reusable, but if there is any sign of pitting then it is beyond redemption

J&L spares will sleeve the master cylinders for you brake cylinders if required and completly rebuild the unit. I had mine done but can't remember off hand how much it was.

Hi roy

If its 3.8 only pattern master cylinders availible. Past parts quoted ?70 to re sleeve mine, but polished the bore and new rubbers was all it needed.
