#1 185VR15 Dunlop Aquajets - now V rated again and reduced!

Post by batemanprdc » Fri Mar 25, 2011 11:21 am

Hi,

Just a quick note to say that the original equipment Etype tyre - the Dunlop SP Sport Aquajet 185VR15 is once again available.

These tyres have recently been uprated, and they combine the original appearance and charecteristics with the latest compound technology, and are once again rated V-150mph for speed.

Still made in England, the Dunlop Aquajet is the ultimate tyre in this size. You cannot buy a better 185VR15!

The other great news is that the price is now reduced as well - down to ?149 +VAT.

If you contact me and mention this forum, I can give you a 5% discount and free UK carriage on these as well. charlie@vintagetyres.com ; 0044 (1)590 612261.

Cheers
Charlie

Charlie

Thanks for the update and discount offer. While we have your attention do you have any thoughts on the new Blockley tyre as a member has just posted a question about them and it would be useful to have a balanced response.

Wether the Michelin is better than the Dunlop is a matter of opinion - we are the only company in the world that buys both directly from the manufacturer so are able to offer fairly unbiased opinion. Both are excellent choices for the Etype! We are distributors and buy directly from the manufacturers Avon, Dunlop, Michelin and Vredestein tyres in this size, so are happy to discuss the merits of all of these.

As regards to the blockley, it is not a tyre that we stock so it is not really fair for me to pass judgement on it. The things to note are that there are some great choices available for the XK-E - Dunlop, Avon, Michelin, Vredestein and Pirelli all make tyres in this size in Europe. Blockley tyres are made in the far east and this helps keep the costs down. They are obviously not a period choice, and do not have the benefit of the research departments of a major manufacturer, but I cannot comment on their performance.

People looking for 185R15s are lucky as there is a better choice from major manufacturers now then there has been in many years. You can buy a European made, top brand tyre straight from the shelf from several different stockists, and that has to be a good thing!

Cheers,
Charlie

The ER70R15 is currently under review, and it is likely to be available in a V speed rating within the next year, which is going to be good news for all owners of series 3 E types as well as series 1 and 2 XJ6.
I will post a message letting you know if and when the ER70R15 is available as a V to keep you all informed.
Incidentally, we have recently reintroduced and do now have stock of the 205/70VR15 Avon CR28 at ?145 +VAT each. This is also a really good choice for these cars.
Thanks!

as a matter of interest. I see that Pirelli have re introduced the cinturato. From my recollection of these early cars in period, I recall the first post radial era tyre generally seen on E Types was the Cinturato. I thought they looked great and suited the car. The Dunlop SP Sports came out about the same time as the XJ6, 1968. Do you have any views on the Pirelli and E types?

Hi

Yes the Dunlop 185VR15 SP sport is now available with a V speed rating and a new reduced price. We will have this tyre along with the other options of tyres that are presently available for E-types on display at the VSCC Spring Start race meeting at Silverstone on the 23rd of April. This will include the excellent Cinturato which is more period for earlier cars. Sadly the excellent handling Michelin XVS tyre is presently out of stock but we should have it again soon.

We will be providing a free fitting service at Silverstone, (as we do at our Bawtry warehouse). If you know what you want please let us know and we will bring extra stock. 01302 711123 dougal@longstonetyres.co.uk

Do you have any views as to the characteristics of each tyre? My recollection from my youth was the Cinturatos were superb in the dry but twitchy in the wet, albeit fitted to my Dad's Wolsey 1100. It seems we now have a good choice of tyres for the E-Type but that makes it difficult to choose on anything other than price so pro's and con's of each would be of most interest to Forum members.

Also will you be at Silverstone for E50?
