#1 Handbrake Compensator

Post by kingzetts » Sat Aug 20, 2011 4:35 pm

I have been stripping my IRS today to sort out a handbrake problem which led to an MOT fail earlier in the week. :(

I've found the problem easily enough - the nearside handbrake outboard pad had worn through and the metal of the pad carrier arm was grinding away the edge of the disc, which also explains why it was squeaking.

Anyway my question is about the handbrake compensator linkage. Mine has one hole at the end of the arm which attaches to the RHS handbrake caliper, but two holes (one further outboard along the arm of the compensator) in the arm which attaches to the LHS caliper. When I originally restored my car the inner of the two holes was in use to attach to the handbrake caliper, but now I'm wondering if this is in fact using the wrong hole. The Jaguar parts manual which is usually helpful only shows one hole in each of the two compensator arms.

Any words of wisdom from the sages?

David,
Useful data but not directly helpful, I'm afraid. It seems the 4.2 compensator is different in design, having one arm (to the RHS handbrake) adjustable, but the arm to the LHS still only has one hole in it.
