#1 3.8 engine

Post by IanR » Sat Feb 18, 2012 5:31 pm

Hi,
Probably a silly question but I have found a nice affordable project e type BUT the reason its affordable is that it is minus an engine. Has g/box and all else but no engine. What are my chances of finding an E type engine, obviously not with the right number on it but one that does bear the R prefix
Cheers
IanR

Any E engine is now rare, and 3.8 engines are rarer still. I would not let it worry you , as there is a tremendous amount of mix and match has gone on with blocks, heads etc and 4.2 engines from XJ6 etc are still fairly easy to come by . What is a more expensive problem is finding 3 SU setups, with replacements coming in at ?2k the last time I looked

and probably all the other engine ancilleries are missing too - water pump, alternator/dynamo, pullys etc...

Personally if the car is affordable - go for it and hunt for an engine and other bits over time :) just assume it will cost you ?2-3K to buy an entire used engine and then assume that you would need to rebuild it...

Etypes are not cheap cars to rebuild as many of us have discovered :)

I have an engine that could be rebuilt and the triple cabs for it too. The down side is I'm in the U.S., but I'm asking very little for it compared to what I've seen here.
