The body number is sometimes written in crayon on the body shell behind various bits of trim. It may be behind the rear wheel arch near the fuel pump but some cars do not have it there. Also bear in mind the body could have been repaired in the past (probably the reason the tag is not behind the number plate) so all traces could have been eradicated.

The most obvious place for the body number is on the VIN plate located below the fuel filter. Ask the vendor for a photo of the VIN plate.

The body number is on a small tag pop-riveted to the bodyshell under the licence plate....you'll have to take the plate off to see the tag.

On my 3.8 FHC it was attached to the LHS inner rear wheel arch near the tail lights.

Just had a thought, it was crayoned to lots of trim bits including the tail gate.

Thanks at all for reply and for the photos, referring another member of the xkedata , write me this :"It's riveted to the inside panel near the tailgate, under the inside trim,on the left side,on the left side, above the fuel tank."
At the moment , i had do the search :
- rear license plate ( there aren't also a 2 little holes for riveted)- negative
- under the inside trim,on the left side,on the left side, above the fuel tank -negative
In other discussion a member write :? inside the rear hatch and on the back of the passenger dashboard fascia?.
At any rate to today I ended, tomorrow i will to take again the search, i will be very happy , if someone can to send off other photographs of other possible locations.
Sorry for my english,
