#1 Door drain tube in Series 1FHC

Post by david muir » Sun Jul 08, 2012 10:29 pm

Hi folks,
Anyone got any tricks/advice in refitting the plastic drain tubes which go from the top front corner of the doors down to the bottom of the door(the windows are still fitted but I hope there's a way!)?
thanks,
David

The windows need to be up most of the way to enable you to get your hand behind the window frame at both top and bottom. It is a very very awkward job , not made easier by having to be done blind at the top , and small hands are a great help

The way to do this kind of job is to feed a stiff wire down though the top drain and then feed your pipe up the same wire from the bottom. Pipes are always easier to press on than pull off, because they tend to swell under pressure and narrow under tension.

I must stop giving my stuff away for free :-) ;)

Don't mess about with a grinder - takes too long. Bandsaw is best, unless your wife is good with a cleaver.

No, I said cleavER, not cleava... oh forget it :-)

Okay folks,
Have had a determined 'go' at fitting driver's side tube.......no joy! Tried feeding stiif wire down from top but wire disappears behind hinge assembly and does not reappear until at bottom of door.
Just doesn't seem to be any space to refit these with door and internals fitted........anybody with any more tips?
thanks,

David

David

speak to Andy at Hutsons. They definately fitted the tube to my doors after they had been skinned.

#9 Drain Tubes.

Question o wise ones.
In my S2 OTS the drain tubes end just above the bottom of the doors and water then presumable exits through the two drain slits in the bottom of the doors, Is this correct?
The reason i ask is because when it rains the drain slits are often overcome and water builds up inside the doors and leaks into the cockpit.

shouldn't be that much water getting into the doors to be honest. but yes your water flow theory is correct.

The slits are quite large - a couple of inches or so which should let out quite a lot of water... is the sill rubber blocking them preventing egress?

Originally the sill rubbers had two cutouts which matched the drains although it seems the modern replacements do not have them. Even if they do the ruibbers can be mounted wrong way round which prevents then from working as designed.
