Gunmetal does look good but be prepared to have people pull out in front of you because many will not see you against the road. Angus can give you his experiences but suffice to say he has had to resort to fitting daylight running lights after several near misses.

Sounds l ike you haven't come across www.xkedata.com where you can search for cars in any colour you like.exkay120 wrote:Still cant decide on the colour.....either Gunmetal or Opalescent silver grey, anyone got a car painted in the latter ? some pics would be nice so i can have a look and finally make a choice, maybe !
If you haven't heard of it please register your car there - everyone else too. It will help establish provenance and you can even help prevent stolen cars fooling someone if they reappear later....

Hi
My car originally was Golden sand with red leather the interior of my car was in good condition but the rest of the car needed a full restoration. I hated Golden Sand so I wanted an external colour to complement the red interior.
After many shows and looking at other cars I decided I wanted metallic silver/grey the only two Jaguar colours available in 1964 were Gunmetal or Opalescent Silver Grey.
I opted for the lighter shade and this is Opalescent Silver Grey this colour looks very different under different lights (and in different photos). I have attached 3 photos of my car as you can see the two side photos look a totally different colour than the one in the spray booth just after the last clear coat had been applied.
In normal light the side photos are a very accurate likness of Opalescent Silver Grey and in truth the photo in the spray booth looks more like Gunmetal in real life.
My advice is to go and look at both colours in the flesh then make your decision.
Hope this helps
Robert.
