On my early (Dec '61) S1 3.8 FHC (welded louvres) there is a gap on the offside between the top of the flange bonded to the inside front area of the bonnet (to which the panel behind the lights etc is attached) and the bonnet itself. This allows water to ingress into the headlamp area and the inner surface of the headlamp glass covers become dirty as a consequence, to say nothing of the inner panel corrosion potential I imagine.
On the nearside the problem is worse as the bonded flange is missing entirely. Am I right in assuming that there should be no gaps and that the area within should be effectively sealed?
Correction of the problem looks likely to be work beyond my skill and experience - has anyone experience of sorting these issues or recommendations for professional rectification?

What you need is a tube of Sikkaflex ( preferably 221 but something like 269 may be more readily available from yacht chandlers ) which you then use to fill the gap and thus bond the diaphragm to the bonnet surface . As it hardens, you can smooth it with a spatula dipped in white spirit so that it looks neat
