#1 Heater Box restoration

Post by andrewh » Fri Sep 21, 2012 7:04 am

I have just started on putting my heater box back together with a new rebuild kit. I took lots of photos of how it all came apart but mysteriously dont have photos of where the thin foam is fixed. I can see the felt goes on the matrix but am unsure where the 4 or 5 bits of lighter foam are fixed. Can you anyone guide me please? I was wondering whether they are to go on the flap to seal it on either side? Parts catalogue is not a lot of use on this one either. thanks in advance

When I dismantled mine from my FHC , it had no felt, but foam on the matrix between the header and bottom tanks and the walls of the heater box, and between the unprotected sides of the matrix and the box, and on both sides of the air flap. There should also be a peripheral foam seal where the outlet air vent of the box meets the bulkhead when you install it . I hope this helps

thanks Christopher. That does help, but could still do with a photo or schematic. I guess I should have taken more photos. I can always ask SNG where the kit came from I suppose. thanks though

The parts manual plate 57 shows you were all the foam pieces go Andrew.

I used this as a reference when rebuilding my heater box.

thanks , but oddly my parts book does not have a plate 57, only a plate 55 which does show the pads but not the location. Did you mean plate 55 Chris?

Plate 55 in the 3.8 book, plate 57 in the 4.2 spares book.
