#1 Wiring Harness Routing(s) S1 4.2

Does anyone have any pics, taken during restoration, that would assist in indicating the routing of the various harnesses? Where they run, which holes they go in and out of, that sort of thing. Mainly the two larger ones (dash and engine bay) but all assistance appreciated..... I have a set of new harnesses and an empty shell, old ones were cut up and thrown into a box by the PO, so no help there.....I have no problems with the detail connections (good schematics.....), just the basic routes. If no pics available, even a brief written description would assist......

Norman : I have never done a 2+2 but I imagine the harness is very similar to the SWB cars . So
The dash harness fits both RHD and LHD cars, but you have to position it so that the instrument cluster wires are on the appropriate side of the car for the steering ( effectively this is done by turning it upside down )
The alternator loom goes through the smaller ( upper ) hole on the LH footwell and comes into the engine compartment undereath the heater box, and then runss along the LH upper frame rail
The engine and front lighting/horn etc looms go through the larger ( lower) hole in the same location. The engine loom is then run along the LH frame rails to the picture frame, across the compartment on the picture frame , and back along the rh frame rails until it reaches an appropriate location for starter, ignition, oil pressure etc wires to branch off . The wiper motor connections will be the rearmost branch of this
The front lights etc loom runs along the LH frames until the 8 way plug is able to be connected to the bonnet socket
These looms connect to the main dash loom at the top of the LH footwell
The LH body loom runs from the LH footwell along the indentation on the inner face of the inner sill until it reaches the B post . It goes into the B post though the hole at the inner base of the B post and is then run internally over the LH rear wheel arch in the double skinned area until the wires are available near to the fuel filler area . they are then run down from there inside the lower rear wing to the LH rear lights, brake lights , number plate lights etc and to the fuel gauge sender . I found it helped to thread a stiff wire through from the rear to the inner cavity of the B post and hook the loom onto this before pulling it back rearwards
The RH body loom is similar in concept and in routing to that of the LH body loom but in addition to the lighting it also has the fuel pump circuit
Both these looms connect to the dash loom at the respective front footwell top corners
If you have not already got them , you will find invaluable for securing the looms to the frame rails the slit strapping and stud kit sold by the usuals which you cut to length and put a stud through the slits . This costs 4/5 of 5/8 of **all and is much handier than tie wraps because it is easy to undo and reposition

Exactly what I needed, many thanks again for your time taken, and the ultra-rapid (!) response....The 2+2 and the SWB's are essentially the same, as far as I can see from the schematics, and as you imagined. I had already fitted the two sub-looms to the rear, mainly because they were pretty simple, and fairly obvious....! But that's when things ground to a halt, so your assistance is greatly appreciated, as always....The photographs are superb, I'm almost halfway through the task already, onwards,onwards.....

I'm also at the re-wiring stage but on a S2 OTS and so have a few more questions.
Does the alternator harness go through the same hole as the engine & front lighting/horn loom on later cars? I've only one large hole from the LHS footwell that comes out behind the 4TR mounting bracket.
Also for the OTS cars, the rear LH & RH looms deviate from the FHC route and pass through the rear bulkhead. Do these looms travel high in the boot space and then pass through a hole into the fuel filler/fuel pump areas?

I have reached the same status.
Got my S1 2+2 bodyshell back from paints hop and first thing for me would be to install the wireing loom.
BUT where to find one. I searched the Internet and found DMG, has some kind of shop listing various wiring components. Some are indicated as stock item and some are on order. However I asked for a complete set and received a disappointing answer.
I have got one price of 525 and 75 delivery time. On request to breakdown that price to understand what is included and if I could split the order.
The answer from DMG was simply :"This is a complete loom." and "Looms are made to order and not held in stock.".
So, is it really the case that the S1 2+2 is one single piece only?!
When I stripped my car I had as many of our several sublooms.
What sub looms are then listed in their shop?
What is your experience?
I am now trying my luck with autosparks.co.uk

Maikel : I bought mine from Autosparks , who I think make the looms supplied by SNGB etc. Autosparks certainly did supply individual looms ( Alternator, Engine Bay, LH body etc etc ) at that time, so it is worth looking at their website
Edit : Autosparks still supply either sectioned or complete looms . Here is the link

also David for the drawing. Think that is for a LHD right?
Had some communications with Debbie from Autosparks.
They really try to help me and it seems that the only difference between a S1 2+2 compared to a FHC of the same production period are the side looms.
So that helps me a lot as I can take the FHC wires and get the longer sides looms installed when I get them delivered.
So, good result via the best forum again.

Maikel : the harness layout is the same irrespective of whether it is LHD or RHD . Jaguar in fact seem to have used the same harness for both, the only difference being that you turned the dash harness upside down. I see, however, that Autosparks seem to do RHD and LHD dash harnesses

Hi Christopher. In January 2013 you replied to Norman Macleod regarding the routing of the wiring harnesses in his E-Type. You helpfully posted several photos but regretfully, these are no longer available. I know it's a long shot but would you still have these photos or can they be made available again?

Hi Steve,
I am only now picking up your reply to my query to Christopher Storey regarding the routing of my E-Type wiring looms. I am so sorry to hear that Christopher passed away some months ago and I would like to thank you very much for letting me know. He will be sorely missed - such a great source of knowledge, advice and experience. Although I never met him, together with the entire E-Type Jaguar fraternity I will miss him.
