I am trying to solve two problems concerning the headlamps.

The first one is that water enters from the internal bonnet when raining , the second one is that the left scoop vibrates when the engine is running.



The workshop suggested to fit a wide seal that closes the gap between the scoop and the hood, that prevents scoop vibrating. But I don't like this solution (see picture below) ....



Can you suggest me a better solution ?

I am sure it can be done but I gave up and take the covers off on a regular basis to clean them. If you do not use any sealant it is only a 5 minute job.

There is supposed to be a small sheet metal tab in front of the scoop on which the front end of the scoop rests. The rubber around the edge of the scoop is merely a piece of split rubber tube to stop rattling and won't actually seal much.

BTW, Tony, if you seal the headlight glasses, you should hardly ever have to clean inside them. Most of the water gets in via the bonnet/wing seam just above the opening where the joint passes through the diaphragm, having being thrown up by the wheel. This area is usually never sealed properly.

the factory use dum dum (black sealant that doesn't cure). I did mine with this and don't have any leaks.

I think Dum Dum can no longer be sold thanks to new EU regulations.

Dum Dum putty has been unobtainable since mid 2010 (nothing to do with the EU - just very little demand) and this product has been recommended by the manufacturer of Dum Dum as the closest replacement currently available. http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/c-121-putty.aspx
