Does anybody have any good ideas as to how to remove the glue on the underside of the roof after I stripped the roof lining? It's been replaced so I'm guessing the glue is Evostick.

I also have to try and get rid of the remains of the felt on the inside of the car which I've ripped out leaving it looking like Chewbacca.

You can buy Evostik glue remover it comes is the same type of can that the Evostik comes in. Paint thinners should sldo do a good job.

I've found that petrol works, but you need to leave it on there for a few minutes. I got mine off the roof by soaking a wad of kitchen roll in petrol and taping it onto the roof with duct tape...about a square foot at a time. Leave it for 5 minutes, and the glue rubs off easily.

Definately a job to do outside!

Thanks for the replies/suggestions. Thinners seems to get the stuff off if you leave it a few minutes so that's the way I'm going.

The original glue was very close to evostick and ordinary white spirit will clean it off.

To be honest I have discovered white spirit is a magic liquid and I use it to clean a lot of things on the car as it doesnt react with cellulose / laquer / water based paints, leather, vinyl etc.

Try it - you will be surprised at what it will clean and degrease

Whenever I want to remove glue from a surface I'm afrai might get dameged with thinners or spirits (like paintwork, etc) , I use Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover.
I think it works even better than thinners for removing glue, although I doubt I would use such an expensive product on the underside of the roof where no harm can be done with cellulose thinners or similar.
