B post help FHC
#1 B post help FHC
Guys, I am just fitting my B post pillars after chroming and want to check a few things. First the bottom bracket had a little turn up , i.e it was not completely flat. This had the effect of lifting the bottom of the chrome up off being flat with the top of the rear wing. It looked a little incorrect to me so I straightened it and now I am not so sure. It would now need shims at the top, which it never had and want to find out whether there should be discernible gap between the top of the B post trim and the rain gutter. Maybe it was meant to have the turn up which allowed the bracket to be fitted with any shims and left the top of the B post nudging the rain channel. If anyone has any photos I would be most grateful, or advice generally. Maybe I am trying to fit something better than was ever fitted ex factory?

The bend is not unusual on the quarter light hinge pillar. It also had shims top and bottom. The top ones were zinc plated steel and were the same size as the top mounting attached to the hinge. The bottom ones were chrome plated steel and were not the full shape of the lower mounting- the shim stopped short where it would run under the shaft of the hinge - as if to facilitate bending of the lower mounting. The idea is to set the top so the shaft of the hinge is clear of the gutter then add shims at the bottom to fill the gap all the while lining up the quarter light with the aperture.

Hi Barrie thanks for this help. As I mentioned mine did not have shims when I took it apart but maybe the hinge post was centralised by bending the tabs rather than using shims. I guess the key factor here is that the location of the hinge post sets the quarter light in the aperture there being no additional up and down adjustment on the hinge if I am correct. I will take another look at it today following your advice. Thanks.
Edit. actually when I think about it the leading edge of the quarter light should be able to be adjusted independently of the hinge post as it slided up and down before being tightened in place.
