How do you clean up the aluminium- die cast parts on the window wiper motor to look like new?

Mine was sent away for refurbishment. However I would suggest ultrasonic cleaner.

Edit. Or vapour blasting. I have a friend who vapour blasts his Japanese motorcycle carburettors and they come back like new.

Spooky. I have just come in from doing this in the shed.

For the end piece with the dome on it I gently used the wire wheel on my 6" bench grinder. It came up really well.
The other casting that contains the big gear cleaned up adequately with kero and a nylon brush.
The aluminium plate I cleaned with kero and a brillo pad. It wasn't too badly scratched but I would have polished it with a buff if it had been. I used the wire wheel on the motor casing and the mounting plate and painted them with hammertone.
I replaced the wires too. As I am converting my car from LHD to RHD I also swapped the blue and red wires over.
