#1 Series 1 wing mirrors

Post by Myles » Wed Jun 26, 2013 7:28 am

HI

I've just purchased a series 1 4.2 roadster and whilst driving it home, realised how reliant I was on wing mirrors, especially on the motorway. I've seen a few posts on the forum and ordered some Tex mirrors on the back of recommendations, but they didn't seem to work properly - couldn't find a good location where they gave much of a view. I wondered if someone could recommend a specialist or a site where I could buy some fairly authentic looking mirrors. Ideally not the clip on ones either

Thanks
Myles

Don't dismiss clip-on mirrors. My S1 OTS came with a driver's mirror clipped to the side window chrome. I got sick of it coming loose or worse falling off and chipping the door, until I hit on adhesive gel pads. These can be bought off Ebay for peanuts. They come in sheets containing about 20 small round discs. I put one between each screw and the chrome. They don't seem to take a particularly good hold at first, but leave them overnight and they "cure". The bond is super strong. No more worries about loosing the mirror on a drive. I bought a second clip on for the passenger side but despite some extensive refashioning, could not get the mirror to point in the correct direction, when looking from the driver's seat. I've also used gel pads to keep the passenger side "hockey stick" pad from falling off all the time. In fact they have no end of applications.

Cheers

Alan

there are a few posts on the forum about mirrors. This one will get you rolling but there are others too... Personally I used 1960's Mirrors as fitted to the wings of Mini's. You can see them in my blog posts
