#1 Radius arms removal and bushes renewal?

Following an MOT test I have an 'advisory' regarding sloppy radius arm bushes. What is the best method of removing the radius arms? I presume I'll need to use a press to fit new bushes into the removed arms. Is it necessary to use locking wire after refitting the arms? Where should the car be supported by axle stands whilst doing the work?

Remove the front of the arms first. I normally use hardwood wedges in between the radius arm and the body. Don't remove the bolts fully at this stage, just loosen them.
Support the car with axle stands under the rear suspension cage (remove the back part of the exhaust).
You will need a press to remove the bushes, the bolts securing the bush to the body should be torqued up and wirelocked.
I always buy new arms as pressing out the bushes is too much hassle!

Thanks Angus - sounds as though you've done the job more than once!
Do you retain the use of a castelled nut and wire locking or is it acceptable to use a nylok nut and thus no wire locking?

It is a wired bolt . There is no nut so you cannot use a nyloc . The easiest way of getting the bushes out is to drill through them peripherally near the outer edges to remove most of the rubber, hacksaw in two places on the periphery and then the outer metal ring will easily come out with a cold chisel

It is of course a bolt - should have looked properly again before my previous post!
