Guys, I am just about to send my windscreen chromes for rechroming and need to know whether I should have the holes that are in the chromes filled in.

So at the top of both sides there is a little hole and also on the cross strips. I of course cannot see from any of my original photos whether there should be any holes at all in the strips or A post trims. I am minded to think not as I cannot see how they would be obscured, of course on other cars there are little trim chromes that would cover a wire holding the two pieces together.

Anyway, if someone would kindly put me right I would be very grateful. thanks Andrew

ps thanks God for this forum!!

No holes in A post trims, yes holes at end of upper/lower trims

Thank you very much Peter. That's sort of what I recalled from stripping it but cannot see how the holes in the strips top and bottom are fixed and subsequently hidden from view but I will no doubt work that out. Cheers

The holes in the strips - as for the ones in the rear screen - are for shoving the trim around when installing. You put a blunt pointer in and can apply significant force push and shove with no damage, if needed, to get it located in the seal channel correctly. The vertical A pillar chrome extensions cover the holes - there are no fasteners that go through them. At the rear the jointing clips cover the holes.

Again thank you Peter. I have been using a magnifying glass on all my E Type books trying to see how the hole connects to it location ,problem now solved. There is one extra hole which had a screw in it, or maybe a rivet. Need to check no corresponding extra hole in strip and get hat filled up

Thank you now I can get on with the next job.
