Bonnet safety catch fitment
#1 Bonnet safety catch fitment
Still struggling to fit up my new Jaguar bonnet. Latest issue is that the new safety catch doesn't line up with the bulkhead bracket even when it's fully forward on its slots. Over the years I have seen mangled brackets and bent catches so wondered whether this is a regular problem? Any photos or information would be much appreciated.

The repro catches are straight whereas the originals had a bend in them which makes fitting difficult. Judicious bending of the bulkhead bracket usually solves the problem but be careful not to close the bonnet fully until you are sure you will be able to get it open again. The catch can jam in place and there is no way of getting in there to release it

Ah! Right thanks David. Why would they make the catches incorrectly then? If anyone has a photo that would be very helpful. The detail work own this car is taking more time than any of the big stuff like the engine build!!
Still can't get my balance links to fit either. Grrr

Seriously! Cars goi g to E Type UK for suspension set up and they can have a look. They have umpteen cars to compare measurements. Basically if I filed the slots thy would fit but the kink in the top of the brackets would not fit correctly around the bonnet duct.

Sorted the bonnet catch thank you David. As you say a little bending of the bulkhead bracket sorted it out. Thanks for that.
