Its a while since I stripped my car and just wondering whether the quarter light catch is fitted to the frame with nuts and bolts or self tappers or threaded screws? are they countersunk or cheese head? thanks for the help guys

To my recall they are chrome self tap raised head.

Spot on , raised countersunk to be precise. There's also a wedge shaped packing piece behind them.

thanks Guys. Not sure what the small packing wedge shape piece is though. My catch just has a wedge shaped end which fits inside the frame edge and then the screws fit through from the outside of the frame and are screwed into this wedge shaped end of the catch. Looking a bit closer though the holes in the catch look to be possibly tapped, suggesting a small threaded screw rather than a self tapper. Note to self, take more bloomin photos when stripping these bits and pieces!

are you guys referring to the fixings where the catch attaches to the body shell? if so is there a packer under the bracket. I was really asking after the information on the other end of the catch where it fixing to the window frame itself?

I was referring to the catch to body fixings (must read the question!). The catch to quarter light screws are indeed threaded, slotted countersunk. They might be either 2ba or 3/16 but not 100%

Yes the thin wedge goes between catch and body. There's a slim (geddit?) chance you could get away without it, but it was added to make sure the catch went fully over centre to click shut without fouling. I a
Suspect that after the first few effectively hand-built cars, where everything was fettled, they added the shim to save time/money rather than redesign the catch. I forget when it was added - could have been around Oct 62 as part of the big panel redesign or it could have been earlier.

thanks once again. I have just fitted the window and although my chassis number, 860897 does not appear, unless I have read the parts book incorrectly, to have had the shim, I am of the opinion that it will need it. The catch does not quite go home fully and actually fouls the metal body edge. So will need to get one or two shims. Are they chrome plated and fit directly under the catch to BODY screws?

Andrew, look at the photos of the S2 FHC that we have just completed. There is a photo of the catch, wedge and screws. It is cast alu and is retained by the 2 screws that secure the catch.

Andrew.....Don't forget, no point fitting rubbers yet as the cant rail is screwed on from behind the rubbers.

Would you please point me in the direction of your photos.

I know my car (860320) doesn't have those shims under the catches and I've always had problems with the quarter lights blowing closed as soon as I get up any speed. I guess they would be easy enough to make, right. TIA.
