Door questions
#1 Door questions
First let me apologise for the vast number of questions I am posting right now. I am really pushing hard to get 860897 out this late spring so thinking about things as they come to mind. Hope I am not hogging the airtime here!
My doors had black shields over the lower apertures which were pretty rotten. I guess they are some sort of water deflector or stiffener and wondered whether they Are necessary items and generally refitted or not?
Also, I have discovered my lower door water deflectors are missing so will need to source these and paint hem, but not sure what goes on at the front drain tube. I guess a pipe fits on here but where does it rout and is it held on the bottom end to direct rain water directly into the internal rain slot?
Thanks.

I bought the rain deflectors from Hutsons. Can't remember the price but it wasn't much. You will probably get the missing door drain tubes from them as well. The tubes are a b----r to fit and I ended up getting the wife to fit them with her smaller hands. The guys at Hutsons are very friendly and helpful.
Cheers

Thank you Alan, I will call Andy at Hutsons after the holidays. I have three daughters so I am sure one of their little mits will fit the job!
Miles. What part did you need a photo of? I van only help with the rotten shields that cover the large inner side apertures....if I can find them

Our posts crossed Simon. Indeed these are missing but I was really looking for details on the internal front drain tube but I think these are in what Miles is looking for. Thanks a lot

The tubes are clearly shown in the parts book Carsten, BD27874, item 13, Plate 47.
The book doubtless includes many other parts not shown in Limora's sales catalogue. J38 was the first thing I bought when I got the car you now have the body for. I couldn't dream of build an unfamiliar car from a pile of parts without the factory parts book. Forums come a poor second, as there are too many times you need an instant answer part way through a job and the exploded diagrams are perfect for that.
The doors of your car do have the attachment stubs for the tubes if you look inside at the front. I actually thought I did put tubes in those doors too, but if you say there are none I may be getting mixed up with one of my subsequent E-types. Maybe you just haven't noticed them in there, they are quite tucked away.

Hi Pete,
Maybe you emptied them out ?
I will give the whole Situation a closer Look in the Garage later.
And I did have more then a pile of parts - i had a totally (?) original car to Start from, so Lots of Things are still in my Memory.... Hopefully :-)
Carsten
P.S. - a pile of parts car is sometimes called a " Chiquita Challenge", because you'll often get 50 banana boxes and a rusty Chassis.....

These photos might help:
Front drainage point on the upper leading edge of the door (is that rust already?!):

The drainage point is part of a mounting plate riveted to the door frame:

Not the easiest place to photo, but there should be a clip to retain the lower section of the drainage tube. The tube ends around 1cm above the door frame. This is slightly behind the lower drainage shrouds in Simon's pictures - you can see the rivets holding the shroud in the distance.

I am certainly missing the shroud - may explain wet feet when driving to and from the Revival!
I assume fitting is straightforward - drill three holes and pop rivet on?
I guess the pipe in the door may also be missing - a little poke around should answer that before taking the door card off.
