Series 1 4.2 2 + 2 Door trim removal problem.

My issue this time is that I need to lower the window frame on the RHS door. The top front of the frame is catching on the body and has damaged the door rubber. All went well until trying to prise off the top chrome mould on the upper door trim - as per the manual. No go. It seems to be riveted to the door trim rather than held on with the normal trim clip. As well the chrome strip at the bottom of the upper door trim also appears to be pop riveted.
Is this normal?
To my untrained eye, it looks like I should drill out the pop rivets of the bottom chrome mould holding the upper door trim in place and remove the upper door trim and the upper chrome mould (and the inner weather strip) as one.
I'm guessing that the previous restorer has had difficulty with some aspect of fitting the door trim and had chosen the pop rivet route as a fix. It actually looks like it works!?
Can anyone tell me what is supposed to hold this part of the upper door trim and the chrome moulds to the door shell?

If i can remember
The upper trim hooks on,and is secured on the bottom edge by self taping screws,the lower trim then fits under the chrome and clips to the door.with the pull handle,window winder and door handle giving the final security.

You are right, I believe, although mine was a little different, with the self tappers replaced by pop rivets.
The pop rivets seems like a good idea as they don't seem to impede the fitting of the door trim (casing). I'll be using them again when I put it back together. The only drawback being having to drill out the pop rivets each time you want to take off the upper door trim!
Interestingly, a chap who lives near me, Warren, also an E Type club member, was needing similar information (although he is at the fitting the interior stage not taking it out). We have been able to assist each other through the processes.
