I'm after a steering wheel boss if anybody has one they want to sell. I always get outbid at the last moment on eBay :(

I think I have one in the shed I do not need.

Please send a PM how much you want to pay for it - it was nice, needs paint but that?s it - and I will dig it out tomorrow.

Can you send me some pictures please to paulcoleman70 'at' hotmail.com
I don't understand when you say it needs paint.. it was just polished aluminium. Are we talking about the same thing? I'm after the round thing which is rivetted to nthe steering wheel and slots over the steering column.

That won't stop somebody with more money than sense outbidding me. I fix an amount I'm willing to pay and then that's it.

Does not work that way. Let's say an item starts at ?1 and you are prepared to go up to ?25 so you put in an eBay proxy bid for that maximum. Someone else comes along and bids ?2 and is immediately out bid by your proxy. So they put in ?3 and the same happens so they keep doing it until they get bored at, say, ?15. It is called taking "pot shots" to test the water and if this person had not mucked about you would probably have won the auction for a lot less than you planned. It also means,. because of the large number of bids, others are attracted to it thinking it is obviously worth having and start bidding (or worse, taking pot shots). Had you put that proxy bid into Auction Sniper it would not have revealed its hand until 8 seconds before the auction closed. AS also allows 'bid enhancement' which means it will increase its bid by your chosen number of bid increments - so if your maximum was ?25 and someone was winning with ?26 it would start taking its own 'pot shots' to see if it can win the item for you for a couple of quid more.

I watched this happen with an early E-Type item which eventually closed at ?160 and 17 bids. There was another similar one also listed but it only attracted one bid so I guess people thought it was wrong in some way. Auction Sniper put my bid in at the last moment and it closed at a fraction of the price of the other item with only two bids - the initial one and mine!

I mean the center part on which you screw / rivet (?) the steering wheel on. It is dark grey / faded wrinkle black IIRC.

Will dig it an make a pic.

I misinterpreted the title of this posting and was prepared to put in an offer for SWMBO, but the buyer would have to understand that he would have to keep her supplied with new dresses and shoes.

There seem to be 3 grub screws on the top of the boss. What are they for?

Thanks, Paul.
