Dear All,

I am restoring a series 1 FHC, 4.2 L. It will have a fast road engine, and a number of other modifications, including a 5 speed box. I would like to hear anyones views on upgrading the steering to power assisted. I have trawled through the technical forum and can't find anything,

This forum is proving to be really helpful, so thanks again to those who respond,

Guy

One of the car magazines (sorry can't remember which one, but I saw it in WH Smith only yesterday) has an article this month on an S2 that's been prepared as you describe ("fast road engine, a number of other modifications") and has had electrically assisted steering installed.

The car is the one featured here, so it may be worth speaking to these people to find out more. It's their car so they should be able to give you some insight:

Uryk at E-Type fabs has made an electrically operated power assisted steering unit specifically for the E-Type.

I have spoken to Uryk a couple of times about this and although around the ?2,500 mark, it is beautifully engineered. It is torque sensitive and you can adjust the amount of assistance it gives. Certainly worth a look.

It was probably the March edition of "Jaguar World Monthly" http://www.jaguar-world.com/
