I have never "been behind" the main instrument board, hence my question below. The right side of my speedo seems to have a non working lamp. If I remove the cover underneath the 2 main instruments (2 small cover plates that overlap above the steering column, by the looks of it), can I then fiddle with this non working lamp? or do I have to remove the entire instrument board? It might be a loose connection if not a broken bulb.
I have removed the entire instr boards on two 60s saloons, but that was in the late 80s, when I restored the entire wooden interior of those cars, which I still own. They don?t have the horizontal covers underneath...

The bulbs are on a spring fitting which pushes into an aperture in the back of the instrument . If you remove the panel from beneath, you can reach up and withdraw the fitting on its wire fairly easily. Replacing it is more fiddly ( mainly because you cannot see what you are doing and it has to be done by feel ) but is not that difficult provided your fingers are reasonably nimble

I did it with just the bottom cover removed. The problem was a thin cable, attachted to one of the mounting points of the rev counter by the looks of it. This cable prevented the slightly longer LED lamp from penetrating sufficiently to allow the clips of the lamp holder to attach to the instrument housing.
