Hi Everyone

I've bought one of these from SNG:-

I've had a good look at the exhaust bracket and can't see how it will fit without drilling an additional hole between the two existing ones.

Can anyone show a photo of one fitted please?

This is how I've connected up the exhaust 'catch' bracket. I think it should catch the welded brackets on the exhaust pipes if the rubber mount fails.

Thats correct, it catches the tie plate bolting the 2 silencers together. Chris, now get u der your car and turn those brackets through 180deg, looks better and will give you a few more mill ground clearance.

Thanks for the photo-your bracket looks rather shinier than mine does. I thought that's how it fitted, but did you have to drill a third hole to accommodate the rubber mount's threaded stud coming through the back of the mounting plate? This is the bit that stumped me. Surely this hole should be drilled already? or am I having a senior moment(again)!

Can you also explain how you managed to make an image appear in your post rather than just a link as I've done? It looks a lot more impressive and is easier to see what is going on.

My rubber mount didn't have a threaded stud (SNG part no JLM9542*):

Do you have a stud fitted instead of the single hole in the bracket? This connects to a 'U' shaped bracket (C18975) and the tail pipes then hang from this bracket (two outer bolts below):



Angus - in my defence, they hadn't been tightened at the time and so were hanging under gravity. All exhaust clamps have since been neatly tucked away due to my developing OCD :D

Thanks for the extra photos. I think I see where I've got confused. The stud I mentioned connects the L-shaped strap from the underside of the boot to the crossbar that the rubber mount also attaches too. I 've looked at mine again and see there are packers inserted between the rubber mounting plate and the cross bar-presumably to allow for the threaded stud head.

I wrongly assumed that this stud originated from the rubber itself, but this would negate the whole idea of the set-up-dohhhhh!

You will also notice that the rubber is in advanced state of detachment in readiness for the big split. So it's just as well I decided to look at this area of the car. A new mount is now on order.

Reading (as I do from time to time) the 3.8 Factory Fit section, I realised that my Stainless Steel exhaust does not have the "hooked safety bracket" (Part C19018) present to prevent the resonators from falling should the metallastic mount fail. Instead, the resonators (which look perfectly positioned from the rear of the car) have a stepped down tie plate (see photos below) as opposed to the standard tie plate which means the resonators are attached a couple of centimetres forward and down from where the originals would have mounted. This looks to be by design given the fabricated tie down plate.







My challenge is where (and how) to fit the safety bracket given where it hooks under is simply a smooth piece of metal as opposed to being under the edge of the tie plate. Has anyone else had this issue on their Stainless Steel exhaust systems and, if so, how have they attached the safety bracket?
